Xbox Game Showcase!

JULY 24, 2020

Daily Gaming Update

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here and welcome back to The Gaming Observer for Friday, July 24th. Folks we had an action packed Xbox event today showing off a bunch of first party titles heading to the Series X, and my summary of that show will be all of today’s episode. Let’s get into it.
Before we break it down though, I do need to mention that every single game they showed off in the event will be available at some point on the Xbox Game Pass. So when you hear me talk about these games, just know that you can get them all on Game Pass, which is just bonkers. Alright first of all, we gotta talk about Halo Infinite, right? That was the headliner and opener of the show, and they did show off gameplay. There was lots story stuff in there if you want to sink your teeth in that, and it’s also worth taking a look at what the gameplay has to offer. It’s not too different, but they do now have a grappling hook for Master Chief, and nothing could make me happier than that. They claimed that it will be larger than the last two games combined, it’ll play at 60fps, and it’ll arriving this holiday. Very fun stuff, but of course we have lots of other things to talk about, let’s start with the brand new games that were announced. And unfortunately for pretty much all of these we have very little details, so don’t be surprised by the lack of information. First of all, the long-rumoured Fable is going to be getting another entry. This was described as a new beginning for the franchise, however no other details were given. The official title is just “Fable” so its possible that this could be a remake of some kind, or they just went the God of War route and dropped the numbers. Either way, super excited about that one, I imagine its still a few years away. Another game announcement was State of Decay 3, again no other details on that one other than it exists. And considering the second one came out just two years ago, I imagine this one won’t be rushing into our hands any time soon. We also got the re-announcement of STALKER 2, which is technically the fourth game made under that name, but nonetheless we now know the game is arriving some time in 2021.
Alright moving on here, let’s look at Obsidian Entertainment, which had a trio of things to say. Their game Grounded, which is “Honey I Shrunk The Kids” in video game format, is now slated for an Early Access release of July 28th. They also have a DLC making its way to The Outer Worlds, called Peril on Gorgon, that arrives on September 9th, and apparently won’t be the final DLC for the game. And finally, they announced their newest first-person RPG called Avowed. They definitely were marketing this as “hey, you love us for things like New Vegas and the Outer Worlds, here’s another one.” This time its set in the universe of Pillars of Eternity, which was their isometric RPG, this time around it is first-person, and boy does it ever remind me of Skyrim. And it may not be that mechanically, but it definitely did visually. That’ll be something to look forward to, again its called Avowed.
In terms of hidden gems, you should definitely take a look at the newest game from Rare, it’s called Everwild. They’ve shown it off before, but the trailer makes such a fantastic and beautiful impression. We don’t know what the game is yet, but they’ve really got something there in terms of charm and worldbuilding. It’s very environmental, very fantastical. The other game I get a good impression of is Tell Me Why from DontNod Entertainment, they are the folks behind Life is Strange. It’s so cool because they basically make interactive movies, which means their trailers are movie trailers, and it totally works, and I’m very interested in what they can do with this story.
Folks, that’s going to wrap us up for today, I did my best to give you the biggest announcements, however I am limited by the time I have here on this show, so I couldn’t get to everything. If you’d like, make sure you’re subscribed to the TGO Podcast on the podcast host of your choice, or the Youtube channel, because like I said yesterday, Kato and I are putting out a full recap show covering absolutely everything, and our impressions of those things. That should be coming Friday afternoon, Eastern time.
