How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from The Gaming Observer, for Wednesday August 28th, 2019. thegamingobserver.com for links and a transcript. We’ve got a lot of interesting things to talk about today, I’m excited, let’s talk about it.

UK retail charts week ending August 24

The UK sales charts are in, and we’ve got some interesting things to look at here. Technically Mario Kart 8 took the top spot, however Minecraft had more sales when you combine the different platforms that its available on. Mortal Kombat 11 took the #4 spot, jumping up from the #40 spot, likely because of the DLC that is upcoming and the various fan favourites that are planned to enter the game. The only new entry this week was Yu Gi Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution. A very long title, but they managed to nab the #10 spot, so actually a little more popular than I would have expected.

World of Warcraft is full

World of Warcraft Classic is full. They launched yesterday, and most server already had multiple hour long queues to enter the game. Blizzard gradually added just under two dozen servers to help fascilitate the wait times, and they’ve also stated that they didn’t do this earlier because they wanted to be reactionary instead of proactive. They saw full servers being a better option than empty server, which I think is wise with the focus on community-driven interaction. Now what’s actually hilarious is that since so many people are playing at the same time, they’re also wanting to kill the same mobs for the same quests. So what people have begun doing is lining up behind the mob spawn. It’s the most civil thing I’ve ever seen in a video game you have to look at the pictures, it’s literally just a bunch of dwarves all waiting in line to kill. I love it.

Cuphead sheet music released

Ok here’s an awesome story. Studio MDHR, who are responsible for Cuphead, have just released the sheet music for their games. Not only that, but they’ve divided it into skill level. So they’ve got high school concert and jazz bands, professional charts, and barbershop quartet charts. Prices range from $35-50, but still that is extremely cheap for popular music. I love seeing this, I love the idea that high school bands are out there playing Cuphead music, and I want to see more of it. Fun fact, in my high school band, we played Baba Yetu from Civilization 4. It’s an amazing song.

Football Manager 2020 announced

Football Manager 2020 has been announced, as expected, and it is launching on Google Stadia. Basically any details you care about will come in mid-September, but the game launches in early November and it looks like it’ll cost around $40.

Fortnite crosses over with Borderlands

Fortnite is gracing our screens with yet another crossover, this time around its Borderlands. Ahead of the Borderlands 3 release, they’ve got some iconic characters and a new location in celebration of the franchise. The event will end on September 10th, three days before the game comes out.

Mario Kart Tour releases September 25th

Mario Kart Tour is the newest free to play mobile game that’s coming from Nintendo, and it arrives on September 25th. It’s been delayed a bunch so it looks like it’s finally found its legs. The gameplay is simplified and it has gacha mechanics, but I’ll be interested to see how Mario Kart makes it on phones. Pre-registration is available now.
