What games I’m playing before the year ends

Transcript:

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from thegamingobserver.com, for Saturday, November 30th. It’s Saturday, and for those of you who might be new to this show thanks to Black Friday, welcome. We do the news on this show Monday-Friday, so I encourage you to stick around at least until Monday to hear what I usually create. Also before we get into this just a heads up I caught some kind of bug and my throat is killing me, so sorry if I sound weird.

Alright so with us rolling into December that means its time to start having Game of the Year discussions, right? This one is always tough for me, because I pretty much never play the latest games, opting to wait for a discount a few years down the road. But now with this show, I almost feel obligated to at least give it a fair shot. With only 30 days left in the year I’m not going to be able to get through very much, but I just got access to the Xbox Game Pass which gives me access to a few 2019 titles that I wouldn’t have played otherwise.

I’ve already finished The Outer Worlds, which I had a tremendous time with. Fallout 3 is one of my favourite games of all time, so being able to return to that style of gameplay was really nice for me. Also the writing was just superb, I loved the storylines, and I especially loved Parvati, the main companion. Her quest line became more important than the main story for me, I thought it was just wonderful. I’ll definitely be talking about this for the end-of-year discussions.
Right now I’m playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. This is a really interesting one for me, I thought it started pretty weak, but the more I play the more I’m getting into it. I think I’ve got 40 or 50% on the game completion counter so I’m a decent chunk of the way through. Now I’m not a huge metroidvania buff, the only other big one I’ve played is like Hollow Knight which is possibly my favourite game of all time. But I think Bloodstained does it really well, and naturally considering who made it. It’s super creative with the different abilities you can get, I have a lot of fun learning enemy attack patterns, and every boss is distinctly unique. If you like metroivanias I’d say definitely pick it up – the gameplay trailers make it look pretty bad, but honestly its a great game.

The other games of 2019 that I’ve played I’ll probably go over later. For the remainder of the year though, there’s a few more I’m hoping to play, mostly through the Xbox Game Pass. I’m looking at The Outer Wilds, Devil May Cry 5, Ape Out, and then maybe Blair Witch, maybe Void Bastards, and maybe Gears 5. I’m actually really excited to play DMC 5 because I just finished up with the DMC from Ninja Theory and loved it, so I want to play a more recent version in the main series.

Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to, and as always I’m still playing Slay the Spire and Breath of the Wild. Let me know what you’ve been up to, and what games you think will be your game of the year.

Thank you so much for tuning in everyone, I’ll be back on Monday with the news, and now I’ve gotta go have a hot tea for my burning throat. Happy Gaming Everyone.
