The Capcom golden age, Apex Legends notes, Crackdown 2, more

How is it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from The Gaming Observer, and this is your Weekend Gaming Update for March 11th, 2019. Head over to for links and a transcript of today’s report.

The Capcom golden age

A heartwarming story that has come out of the last few days has been how Capcom is finally making a triumphant return to the gaming scene. CEO Kiichiro Urata was filmed on twitter saying quote “Capcom is back!” endquote, notably following the success of Devil May Cry 5 which released on the 8th. This truly has been a successful few months for Capcom, with the Resident Evil 2 remake back in January, and of course Monster Hunter: World being their best selling title ever last year. Many people had seen Capcom as a fallen giant in the gaming industry, putting out some disappointing titles for quite a few years in a row, so I am excited to see this narrative that is developing of them being in a golden age of content.

Apex Legends update

Apex Legends has gotten some attention for a post made by Respawn on Reddit. They have claimed that they have banned over 350,000 players on PC so far because of cheating. They also claimed that while the service works, that number is just the tip of the iceberg for what is to come. They’re working to be even more efficient in their efforts against cheaters, but they need to keep it close to their chest so that they can’t fight back in advance. There has also been some information that has been brought up from dataminers, so if you’re interested in that I encourage you to check out the link on the website.

Crackdown 2 free/backwards compatible

Crackdown 2 has just been given Xbox One backwards compatibility, and is also now permanently free. This follows in the footsteps of the first Crackdown, which did the same thing some time last year. On top of it all, you’ll be able to access it on Xbox Game Pass if you have that instead.

Slime Rancher/Oxenfree free on Epic Games Store. Also there’s a search bar now.

Just some quick notes on the Epic Games Store. The current free game of the month is Slime Rancher, which I’ve had some fun playing before I do recommend it. Starting on March 21st, Oxenfree will be handed out, which is also a wonderful singleplayer narrative which I highly recommend. Also, they’ve just added a search function to the store. Definitely something you would’ve expected from the start, but they said that it wasn’t needed when they only had a few games on the storefront.

That is the news. I want to thank Scades for leaving me a 5-star review on Amazon.
