TGO Discord server, Half-Life: Alyx, Drawful 2

Daily Gaming Update

TGO After-Show (not really)

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from and welcome back to your daily gaming news for Tuesday, March 24th. Now today was fairly slow on news, but I have a special announcement I’d like to make here first.

My friends, before we get into the news here today, I would just like to announce that The Gaming Observer now has a public Discord server. I have wanted a place for all of you to meet each other for a long time now, and I’m so happy we can now make it happen. And of course I am there, Kato is there, lots of long time listeners are there, and it’s just a place where you can talk about this show, or about video games, or give me feedback. To get the link for the server, just take a look at the links portion of the website it’s right on the homepage, or check out my pinned tweet on Twitter. If you do decide to join, please make sure you give a read to the rules, and make a post in the introduce yourself channel. I’m super excited for this, and I’m looking forward to getting to know you. And hey, even if you’re not someone who usually participates in Discord conversations, I’m not really either, I’d still love for you t o be there. Anyway thanks for letting me mention that, now let’s talk news.

Half-Life: Alyx has been released, and the reviews are incredible. Every news outlet is saying that it is worth buying if you have a VR headset, and it is what they claimed it to be, which is a fully fleshed out game. I.E., not a tech demo like most everything on VR. Some are calling it the best VR game released so far. I’m not going to give you too much detail, because I haven’t played it myself, but it is in this weird spot, right? Like says here, “Half-Life: Alyx, then, is an odd beast: a truly major event in video games, but one that will remain beyond the grasp of the people that most fervently wished for its existence.” Because of course, a lot of people don’t own VR headset. But this brings another point, which is that this iteration of the franchise is probably just the start. I’ve got another article here from IGN, who says that they did try to make a new Half-Life game multiple times, but were just never happy with what they came up with. VR gave them inspiration, and they’ve been pretty clear in their promo that it is designed to be a VR game first, and then a Half-Life game. They’ve also previously said that this was considered a return to the franchise for them, not the end. So I wouldn’t at all be surprised if we see more Half-Life in the next few years. For now, I hope some of you are able to enjoy it in virtual reality.

Hey, if you’re looking for some silly fun with your friends, go pick up a free copy of a game called Drawful 2. This is a game from the developers of the Jackbox Party Packs, and they are just giving it away for the next few weeks on Steam. If you haven’t heard of this before, it is perfect for playing with friends or family. It’s almost like a board game, except with one copy of the game, everybody can connect to it with their phones. It’s also easy to set something like this up remotely, streaming your desktop these days is super simple.

Alright, like I said it was a slow day for news, so I figured I’d take the opportunity to mention the Discord server, please feel free to join us there. I will be back tomorrow with the news, as I am every Monday through Friday, and until then, Happy Gaming everyone.
