TF2 loot crate bug, Doom trilogy on consoles, more

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from The Gaming Observer, it is Saturday July 27th, 2019. Not much news today, so it’ll be a quick one, for links and a transcript.

TF2 loot crate bugs out, ruins market economy

A glitch for Team Fortress 2 loot boxes have completely upended the Steam market. As I’m sure you know, the game’s primary cosmetics are hats, and one type of hat is called the “Unusual”. It’s an item quality that adds particle effects to the cosmetics, and it’s considered some of the rarest items in the game. On a normal day, a cheap one would cost around $20, so it’s definitely coveted. Well it turns out that the game’s latest update drastically increased the drop rate of Unusual items, plummeting the cost. A lot of people in the community are causing a stir about this, and thus far Valve has responded simply by shutting down the marketplace for TF2. We’ll see what they do to restore the issue, and the game’s economy.

Doom trilogy now available on console

The original Doom trilogy has suddenly become available on Playstation, Xbox, and the Switch. It had a bit of a false start today, but the dust has settled, and you can now purchase and play the games on console. Fair warning here that it’s looking like Switch owners have to log in through Bethesda’s system before they can play the game. I’m not sure yet if this is exactly how it’s going to play out, but it’s something to keep your eye on.

Pillars of Eternity being ported to Switch, August 8

Speaking of the Switch, Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity will be ported over there as a full package with the DLC. It’ll cost about $50, it’ll be available on August 8th, and they haven’t yet announced anything about a physical release. If you want to pre-order though, you’ll get a 20% discount.

EGS now has limited cloud saves. Discord now has folders (!!!)

Two platform specific announcements here. The Epic Games Store has begun to roll out cloud saves, which I’ll admit is arriving dreadfully late but what can you do. It’s only available for a few games right now but mass release will arrive at some point. Also, Discord has finally added folders for your server organization. This means that if you’re like me and have access to dozens of servers, you can finally make it easier to navigate. Hooray!

That’s all for today, it’s short and sweet. My name is Adrian Simple, I’ll be back tomorrow talking about all the games released in the last week, and until then, Happy Gaming everyone!
