Take-Two and Activision Blizzard financials, coronavirus hits, more

Daily Gaming Update

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from thegamingobserver.com and we’ve have same gaming news to talk about for Friday, February 7th. We’ve got lots to talk about today, so let’s take a look.

Take-Two reports Q3 financials

Take-Two Interactive reported on their Q3 financial results, and revealed that GTA V has had its best holiday quarter ever, in both player numbers and player spending. Of course Red Dead Redemption 2 also did very well for itself, and interestingly Take-Two had high praise for Outer Worlds, saying it significantly succeeded expectations. And that is in spite of it being put on the Xbox Game Pass day one. They mentioned that normally they see subscription services as something that is good for sales of their back catalogue and not their newest games, so certainly this is an exception. Alongside the help of Borderladnds 3, NBA 2K, and WWE Supercard, they managed to bring in $888 million in bookings, which is down from 1.5 billion, though the reason for that is likely because RDR 2 released last year, so they had a lot of sales. Looking to the next year, they’re anticipating more updates to the games you would expect, a Switch port for the Outer Worlds, and the launch of two new games under Private Division, Disintegration and Kerbal Space Program 2.

Activision Blizzard reports Q4/Full year financials

Activision Blizzard also had a financial report, except this is for Q4 and the full year. And you know, they warned investors that 2019 was going to be a transition year, and that’s has certainly come true. For the full year, net revenues were down 13% year-over-year, income down 19%. Now their monthly active users were up by about 50 million, however much of that bump likely comes from the free-to-play Call of Duty mobile app. When you split up the various companies within, Activision was down 10%, in part thanks to losing Destiny, Blizzard was down 25%, and King was down 3% year over year. And perhaps 2020 will be another off year for them, with a 2020 revenue forecase that is worse than their actual 2019 numbers.

Ubisoft claims 5 AAA games for September 2020-March 2021

Alright Ubisoft also had some financials but I’m not going to go through the numbers. What will say is that they confirmed 3 AAA games will be released between September and December of this year, with two more releasing in the first three months of next year. Of those five, we know that they are going to be Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six Quaratine, and Watch Dogs: Legion. Now officially they have confirmed that the remaining two will not be Beyond Good and Evil 2, or Skull & Bones. However Jason Schreier, who is a very trusted journalist, claims that they are going to be a new Assassins Creed, and a new Far Cry.

Coronavirus hits many different places

The coronavirus has struck once again, in many different ways. The Nintendo Switch has been confirmed to have delays in production, Ubisoft had to close their Chinese studios for a week, Private Division had to delay the port for The Outer Worlds on the Switch, and the Oculus Quest is going to have a shortage of stock as well. So if whatever you are waiting to buy is produced in China, you might just have to wait a little bit longer depending on what kind stock these companies will have.

No questions asked for Warcraft 3: Reforged refund requests

Just a quick note here that if you bought Warcraft 3: Reforged and are dissappointed with it, Blizzard is offering full refunds with no questions asked. I figured I’d mention that just in case some of you wanted it.
