Summer game events, Darkest Dungeon PvP, Witchbrook, more!

Daily Gaming Update

TGO After-Show

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here and welcome back to The Gaming Observer. It Monday, April 6th, and we’ve got quite a bit of news here about individual games, but first we gotta talk about gaming events. As always, feel free to visit for links and a transcript.

Alright so we still haven’t gotten the ESA’s plans for E3 after they cancelled it last month, however they have confirmed that it is returning 2021 between June 15 and 17th. They are going to host some kind digital thing this year, but we’ll see what happens. More importantly though is that IGN has just announced what they call the Summer of Gaming event, which is apparently going to similar in style to E3, except obviously fully digital. It’ll bring news, announcements, commentary, and they’re bringing a ton of major companies, we’ve got 2K, Square Enix, SEGA, Amazon, Google, THQ Nordic, and more. Doesn’t seem like they’ve announced exact dates, but it should be coming in June. So hey, if you’re looking for that E3 fix this year, you might just want to look towards IGN.

Darkest Dungeon is getting a free DLC sometime next month, which is adding a player vs player mode. And this is a strange one — Darkest Dungeon is this really gritty and really challenging dungeon crawler which was previously a solo game. It was all about managing your resources, learning the enemies, and basically just trying to keep your head above water the whole time. I’m sure most people would agree with me that it’s a pretty hard game, and that’s mostly because of very careful design. So now that they’re adding a PvP element to it, I’ll be curious to see how it balances. It seems like everything they’ve done with the game so far has been good, so I don’t doubt their abilities by any means, I just think it’ll be quite the unique experience. If you haven’t played it before and you like a game that presents a challenge, I think you should check it out.

We just got some more screenshots of a game called Witchbrook. Witchbrook is a game that we know very little about, but has gotten a lot of people excited. It’s all about being in a school of magic, think Harry Potter, and it’s got this Stardew Valley vibe. You can build relationships, learn spells, go fishing, grow crops, unravel mysterys, etc. etc. The newest screenshots show a fully revamped graphical style making it really pop, it’s really quite pleasing to the eye. Anyway I wanted to get this on your radar because if you’re fan of these games that are almost like life-simulators, you know Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon type games, it seems like this is what its going to be, except for magic schools. I’m looking forward to hearing more about it. Once again that’s called Witchbrook.

Riot Games’ Legends of Runeterra, their card game, is going to be officially launching on April 30th. It has been in beta for a while now, but they will now have a full PC and mobile presence with a new set of 120 cards. Riot clarified that past the extra stuff, them launching the game is also just a statement that they are confident with the game and ready to expand to a wider audience, so more content, more features, more balancing. If you are already in the beta, there will be no content wipe, so you’ll keep everything that you’ve earned.

Epic Games has a whole bunch of free games up for offer right now. You can pick up Gone Home, which is a very popular walking simulator that came out in 2013. They’ve also got a game called Hob, h-o-b, which is an adventure game from the creators of Torchlight, it looks very fun. And then they’ve got Drawful 2, a Jackbox game which is also free on Steam, as well as Totally Reliable Delivery Service, a silly co-op game like Overcooked that just released last week. Check ’em all out, you won’t regret it.

Alright, thank you very much for joining me here today, and thank you to Venesa and Colby for leaving me a 5-star review on Amazon. I will be back tomorrow with the news, as I am every Monday through Friday, and until then, Happy Gaming everyone.
