Pokemon Direct, Nier: Automata sells 4 million, more

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from The Gaming Observer, and this is your Daily Gaming Update for June 6th, 2019. For links and a transcript for today’s stories, be sure to visit thegamingobserver.com. Usually I start the show off with some industry news but there wasn’t a whole lot of that today, so it’s going to be stuff from various video games. Let’s get into it.

Pokemon Direct: Sword & Shield releasing November 15

There was a Pokemon Direct today, revealing lots of new information about Pokemon Sword and Shield. Most importantly, it will be coming out on November 15th, so just in time for Christmas sales. The major new mechanic of the game is something called Dynamax, which is essentially the Pokemon gorwing to an enormous size to fight. It’s similar to the Mega Evolution, except there’s no reskin, it’s just bigger. The other focus of the presentation was what they call the Wild Area, which is an open world part of the game where you can free roam the camera, battle Pokemon, and link up with friends to do raids, ala Pokemon Go. There’s lots more to check out there if you’re a Pokemon fan, but that’s the jist.

Nier: Automata sells 4 million copies

Nier: Automata from PlatinumGames has sold more than 4 million copies since its launch in 2017. They had a video with some game designers to celebrate, and it was quite heartwearming to hear what they had to say about it. This is also the best selling game of their studio’s history – perhaps Bayonetta 3 will be able to catch up to it though.

Outer Wilds continues to get great critical reception

If you haven’t already I encourage you to check out the game Outer Wilds. It’s an indie exploration game that has received insanely good critical reception. Christian Donlan of Eurogamer wrote a very nice piece on why the game is so unique, and why it’s one of the greatest games he’s ever played. I haven’t had the chance because I can’t afford to pay for video games right now, but it certainly looks like a ton of fun.

Ghostbusters makes its way to Rocket League

A few days ago I reported that the new Ghostbusters game was being remastered, well it looks like that franchise is making quite the rounds. We knew previously that they had an expansion planned for Planet Coaster to be “Ghostbusters” themed, but now Rocket League is also getting one as a part of their “Radical Summer” event. It will be adding a limited-time game mode called “Ghost Hunt”, and of course plenty of cosmetics.

Diablo on GOG adds “Hellfire” expansion for free

The first Diablo was recently released on GOG.com, and now they have just released the expansion, “Hellfire” for free. So if you picked that up you now have more content to play through. The full game is also currently 10% off, but is already cheap as is.

That’s the news for today. Thank you so so much for tuning in, and thanks to Brandon for supporting the show through Patreon. My name is Adrian Simple, see you tomorrow, and Happy Gaming everyone!
