How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from thegamingobserver.com and welcome to your daily gaming update for Friday, January 10th. We’ve got a whole lot to talk about today, so let’s get started.

Pokemon Direct details (Mystery Dungeon + Sword/Shield expansions)

Nintendo held a Pokemon Direct with a bunch of news dedicated to the franchise. First of all, they announced their newest game, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, which is a port of the DS games. If you’ve never heard of this game, it’s very different than typical Pokemon. Essentially its a bunch of randomly generated dungeons and you play as a Pokemon. Anyway, it’ll arrive on March 6th, but there is currently a demo available for download on the Switch. I played the demo myself and it is a very entertaining port of the game, they did a great job, and the demo lets you play the first few dungeons. Also everything you do will be carried over if you decide to purchase the game. The other thing that came from the Pokemon Direct is the announcement of Sword and Shield getting expansion passes. This is something new for the franchise — where before you had them enhancing the two games into something like Platinum, or Ultra Moon and Ultra Sun, this is much more typical of an expansion that you would see from other games. Also you won’t have to start from the beginning, you just take your existing save file and venture into new areas, and meet new Pokemon and Pokemon from previous games. And to the best of my knowledge though I could be wrong on this, there are two expansions planned called The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, both will be available for both games, but will have to be purchased seperately even if you own both Sword and Shield. The first one comes in June, the second in the fall.

First gameplay shown for Magic: Legends

The first gameplay footage of Magic: Legends has just been released, so if you are interested in that feel free to give it a look, though I wouldn’t say it is anything particularly incredible. This is an MMO RPG based on the Magic: The Gathering IP, and it will be free to play on PC, PS4, and Xbox at some point in 2020. It will have co-op, it’ll have lots of Magic lore if that’s your thing, and apparently it looks a lot like Diablo.

Steam overhauls soundtrack system

Steam has overhauled their support for video game soundtracks. Essentially before, in order to listen to a game soundtrack through Steam, you had to purchase it as DLC of the game. This meant that you couldn’t buy it independantly of the game, had to have the game installed, and it was somewhat hard to navigate. Now, all of those issues have been fixed with a dedicated music directory, which includes multiple quality levels and some extra meta data like album art. It looks like the whole thing isn’t fully functional right now, but should be in a few weeks.

Street Fighter V fixed by Reddit user

Ever since 2016, Street Fighter V has had issues with their online play. Essentially it was quite often that one player would get lag, and the other player would not. It’s been a known issue since very early on, and Capcom has never addressed. Well, a Reddit user took it upon themselves to fix it, and it works! You have to edit your game’s source code, but it solves the lag issues of PC vs PC online play, and not yet for cross-play, but they’re working on it. You are also able to take that into public online matches, and nobody has been punished for having altered their game yet, but of course that could change at any time. So check that out if you were someone effected by the lag.

Hey folks, just a very quick heads up that next week I am heading to speak at a conference in the United States. I’m bringing a microphone so I will be able to record this show, but my apologies if I run into any issues while I’m there. Wish me luck, and thanks for your patience.

Okay that is going to be all for today, I’d like to thank you very much for tuning in, and I’d also like to thank Steve for leaving me a 5-star review on Amazon. As you know I am here every Monday-Friday with the news, and normally tomorrow I’d be doing a listener interaction day, but in fact I will be doing another news day, because there is so much I wasn’t able to talk about in today’s show. Anyway, I’ll be back tomorrow and until then…happy gaming everyone.
