How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from The Gaming Observer, and this is your Daily Gaming Update for June 19th, 2019. Head over to thegamingobserver.com for links and a transcript. For those of you listening on Amazon, I did indeed have an update yesterday but I forgot to upload it, so you can find it on my YouTube channel if you want to hear it.

NPD stats for May 2019

Stats from NPD have come in for the month of May. Overall games spending is down 11% year over year, and the sales of new releases are the lowest in a May month since 1998. The top 5 games sold were Mortal Kombat 11 at number 1, once again, followed by Days Gone, Total War: Three Kingdoms, Rage 2, and GTA V. In all of 2019 so far, Mortal Kombat 11 is also #1, followed by Kingdom Hearts III.

Mortal Kombat 11 gains ranked mode

Seeing as Mortal Kombat is so high on the charts, I consider it prudent to inform you that it has gained a ranked mode. It will be seasonal, which takes place over four weeks and nine tiers. Each tier will then have their own associated rewards. NetherRealm has said they have an optimized matchmaking system as well. We’ll see how it goes, but I imagine there are quite a few people who were waiting for something like this.

Minecraft: Story Mode prices hike to $100/episode on Xbox

I’ve told you before that Minecraft: Story Mode is going to become un-downloadable some time in the future. Well, now the game is currently available for purchase on the Xbox 360 for $100 per episode. That means if you want the full game, you need to pay $700. Why is this happening? Well, thanks to some backend issues, Xbox was unable to take the game off the store without people being able to download it. So instead they are leaving it up before the game’s servers are being shut down, so that they can be downloaded. BUT they don’t want anyone buying it, so they hiked the price up to an extreme. An interesting tactic for an unfortunate situation.

Info on Dr. Mario World

The next free-to-play smartphone game from Nintendo is Dr. Mario World, and it has been announced to launch on July 10th. It is a match-3 puzzle game, with 169 levels offered, and more planned. Funnily enough, you can also choose to play as Dr. Peach, Dr. Yoshi, Dr. Toad, and Dr. Luigi, so we have a whole suite of medical practitioners here. Monetization uses the energy system, where you can try and win a level only a certain number of times, reearning a try every 30 minutes.

Folks I am away for vacation for a week beginning tomorrow. Fear not however, I have content scheduled for most of the days, and you can find what’s planned on my Twitter @gaming_observer. I hope you enjoy it.

That’s all the news for today. Thank YOU for tuning in, thanks to John for leaving me 5-star review on Amazon, and thanks to Brandon for supporting the show through Patreon. My name is Adrian Simple, see you tomorrow, and Happy Gaming everyone!
