How is it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from The Gaming Observer, and this is your Daily Gaming Update for April 9th, 2019. Head over to thegamingobserver.com for links and a transcript of today’s report. Folks I had recorded a full update yesterday and just completely forgot to upload it. I’ve been off the ball, my apologies. I’m sure it will be better when school finally lets up.

Microsoft responds to allegations of sexual assault

An unfortunate situation has arisen from Microsoft. A few days back it was reported that a far reaching email chain was being shared around the company with stories of sexual harassment and discrimination. There were over 90 pages of emails with women sharing some truly horrifying stories. Here’s one, quote “One female Microsoft employee received death threats if she did not perform sexual acts on a work trip.” endquote. After bringing that up to her manager and HR, they blew her off saying it was just flirting, and to get over it. Chief People Officer Kathleen Hogan has responded to these stories, saying that she would get personally involved in rectifying the allegations, and has already set up sessions for employees to talk with her. So very sad to see this in our industry, of course, and hopefully they will be held accountable.

Steam review-bombing counters in effect

Following up on their promise, Steam has countered a review-bombing that was attempted on the first two Borderlands games. After Borderlands 3 was announced as an Epic Games exclusive, users turned to the previous game’s Steam pages and began leaving swaths of negative reviews. Well, with the newly implemented features, those reviews will no longer count towards the overall review score. Instead, a little star will be shown indicating that there is a period of off-topic reviews. Interesting to see it in action and overall I think it’s for the best.

Early quit penalties coming to Apex Legends

So just some battle royale news here. In Apex Legends, they will soon be implementing early-quit penalties. So every three games that you quit mid-match, you will have a 5 minute cooldown. Probably not harsh enough but there will likely be changes before the feature gets fully released. They’ve also been doing an excellent job recently with cheaters, who are going haywire in their forums because they can’t play the game. Over at Fortnite, they are going to be introducing a respawn mechanic, which will be showing up on their next update.

The Witness free. Assassin’s Creed III Remastered is well received

The Witness is currently free on the Epic Games Store. This is my personal favourite puzzle game of all time, and is quite frankly one of the smartest and most beautiful games ever made. You owe it to yourself to pick up and at least try this game. Additionally, go ahead and try out the Assassin’s Creed 3 remaster, which has had a plethora of improvements and is being received quite well.

That’s the news. I would like to thank Daniel and Mack, both for leaving me 5-star reviews on Amazon, thank you very much my friend. You know where to find me, @gaming_observer, info@thegamingobserver.com. This update was produced in part by Brandon, who funds the show through Patreon. Thank you very much, have a exquisite day, and Happy Gaming everyone!
