Luigi’s Mansion 3, VKLiooon, Zachtronics new game, more

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from, for Tuesday, November 5th. We’ve got lots to get into, but first there was a total mixup yesterday, let me explain. To my Alexa listeners, my apologies for the super long audio that you heard, I uploaded the wrong file. So if you want to hear the daily update, we talked about Death Stranding and a whole bunch else, you can catch up on Youtube or the podcast host of your choice. And if you want to hear the full Observer Radio that got cut off after 10 minutes yesterday, you can also hear that in the same places. My apologies for the mistake.

UK Physical charts, week ending November 2

The UK physical charts are in, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 has become the fastest-selling Physical Switch game of 2019. Yes, our very own Luigi has beaten out both Super Mario Maker 2 and Link’s Awakening. This probably won’t stick around for long, with Sword and Shield coming out soon, but it’s interesting to see nonetheless. Unfortunately despite that new record, it only came #2 in the charts, falling significantly behind Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is of course still selling strong. The only other debut on the charts was the Alladin and Lion King bundle which are remasters of the original platformers, they came in at Number 12. Besides that, you see the usual names in the top 10, with a particular note on the new Plants Vs Zombies, which sold better in its 3rd week than its first.

VKLiooon becomes first woman to win a BlizzCon tournament

Something I neglected to mention about Blizzcon is that they held a variety of esports tournaments, one of which was the Hearthstone Grandmasters. The event crowned the first ever female winner of a title at BlizzCon across all games, and her name is VKLiooon. She swept a guy named bloodyface 3-0 to win the grandmasters and take home the $200,000 prize. Here’s what she said afterwards, “I want to say for all the girls out there who have a dream for esports competition, for glory, if you want to do it and you believe in yourself, you should just forget your gender and go for it.” Of course very happy to see this, the more representation we can get in this industry the better.

Jeff Kaplan on leaks

When Jeff Kaplan introduced Overwatch 2 at Blizzcon, he gave a little jab at the people who leaked it. Well, it turns out that he has some stronger feelings behind this, which he talked about to Kotaku. He says that it was extremely demoralizing for the team, and that the biggest frustration is that content is sent out into the world without context, so people automatically assume the worst. Thankfully they are remaining positive, he throws it back to the WoW expansion Burning Crusade which got leaked, which nobody remembers now. Similarly in 5 years hopefully all people will remember is how great the game is, and not the negatives that spread around before the official announcement. I know this isn’t news per se, but I thought it’s an interesting perspective to talk about, because sometimes we forget that there are people pouring their heart and souls into these games.

Zachtronics spontaneously releases MOLEK-SYNTEZ

The newest game from Zachtronics, who are well known for their extremely complex puzzle games like Space Chem and Opus Magnum, just spontaneously released their newest title MOLEK-SYNTEZ. It’s all about create small molecules with various pharmalogical effects, it seems pretty interesting. As usual the game will have a limited Early Access, but it is essentially the final game right now. Go give it a look.

That’s the news for today. A big thanks to Joshua for leaving me a 5-star review on Amazon, that means a lot to me. I will be back tomorrow, as I am every day, and until then…Happy Gaming everyone.
