Last of Us 2, Sims 4, and Titanfall 2 selling well

Daily Gaming Update

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here and welcome back to The Gaming Observer daily news updates. Thanks for your patience while I was away yesterday, though we weren’t going to be talking about news anyway, so you didn’t miss much. Folks, we got lots to talk about from the weekend, let’s take a look.

The UK physical sales charts are out, and perhaps as expected, The Last of Us Part 2 is dominating. It turns out that this is Sony’s fastest-selling game this generation, beating out the opening week of Uncharted 4 from 2016 by 1%. However, since these are only physical numbers, that gap is probably much larger. This also makes it the best physical UK launch of 2020, beating out Animal Crossing by a whopping 40%. That’s where I will end it for now because these numbers are representative of popularity more than anything, and I imagine sales milestones will come our way at some point.

I have another short story here coming our way from The Sims 4, which now has 10 million monthly active users. The game is six years old, and we still have 10 million playing it every month, that’s incredible. Anyway, 2.5 million of those came from the last two months or so, and it’s probably going to add even more, as the game has now become available on Steam for the first time. There’s no word on how many of those players are playing via direct purchase or through EA’s subscription service. Either way, very happy for that team and community, and I hope it remains strong.

Speaking of strong communities, you know what has taken off recently is Titanfall 2. That game has an interesting background because a lot of people really love the game, myself included, but it never had a tremendously large player base. It also just didn’t sell very well, despite the fact that people love the campaign and the multiplayer. The dev team’s focus shifted over to Apex Legends, but now the game is available on Steam. And the numbers aren’t going crazy or anything, but it’s at a point where there’s a bunch of new players and the lobbies are at least filling up, which couldn’t always be said. So if that was something on your radar make sure you give it a look, honestly the price tag is worth it for the campaign alone, but I had a great time with the multiplayer as well.

Baldur’s Gate III is just gotten a deep dive video from Larian that is just over an hour long, showing off a bunch of new things, and sharing how the gameplay has changed through the development process. I’m not going to get into the specifics of everything, but what I will say is that the game is looking absolutely tremendous. I think any game from Larian after the success of Divinity 2 was going to be something to keep your eye on, but the fact that it’s Baldur’s Gate makes it all the better. The gameplay is looking fantastic, and I can’t to see them pull it off.

Hey folks, just a heads up that it appears as though the game Injustice: Gods Among Us is currently free to keep on PC and consoles. This is the fighting game that is set in the DC Universe, so you’ve got Batman, Superman, Joker, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, etc. etc. I don’t imagine you’ll too much time in the online mode, but I’ve definitely heard that people like the campaign for this game, I remember it has some fun multiverse stuff going on. It’s also the Ultimate Edition, which means that all the DLC are in there. Pick it up and have some fun.

Alright folks, that’ll do it for today thank you very much for joining me here, and thank you to Christopher and Lewis for leaving me 5-star reviews on Amazon. That’ll be all for today, and until next time, happy gaming everyone.
