TGO After-Show

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from thegamingobserver.com and welcome back to your daily gaming update for Tuesday, February 18th. Hey, thanks for being here, let’s talk video games.

HQ Trivia shuts down

HQ Trivia has officially shut down. The live quiz game mobile app will no longer be running, and the company has let go of the 25 full-time employees. When this game launched in 2017, it had tremendous success. Millions of people tuned in live twice a day to compete for real money, and at the time it seemed like the sky was the limit. Unfortunately, over the course of the next two years, there was a lot of turmoil within the company. A CEO was forced out, the new CEO, Colin Kroll, was aggressive, and then he eventually passed away from a drug overdose. That brings us to today, where “lead investors are no longer willing to fund the company…HQ will cease operations and move to dissolution.” All of this despite the millions of dollars of revenue they generated in such a very short time. We’ll see if another company decides to pick up the concept and try again, or if it was an app doomed to fail. Nonetheless, my heart is with the employees affected by this closure.

Starcraft: Ghost leaks gameplay footage/dev build from mid 2000s

Do you remember Starcraft: Ghost? This was supposed to be a third person shooter set in the Starcraft universe, and they first announced it in 2002, with a planned release of late 2003. It got delayed many many times though, and after a few developer changes, they stopped developing it in 2006. They never officially confirmed its cancellation until 2014. Well, yesterday, new gameplay footage has leaked of an early original Xbox build of the game. While there is some footage, a build from the dev kit is also making the rounds, so you can anticipate much more unpacking of what was there. Although I will say this, “It looks like a lot of the standard shooters and action games we got back in the early 2000s, which might be another reason this game never got finished and released.” Apparently the primary reason is because of the success of World of Warcraft and Starcraft II, but can you blame them for that one?

Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 Remix and HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue heading to Xbox One

A bunch of Kingdom Hearts games are headed to the Xbox, and should be available by the time you’re hearing this. This will include the 1.5+2.5 Remix, as well as the HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. I will admit the contents of those packs are pretty complex so I won’t get into it, but suffice to say there is a lot there. Heading to Xbox, check it out.

Netflix Castlevania returns for Season 3 in March

The Netflix Castlevania series is returning for a third season, and it’s coming this March, so pretty quickly. If you haven’t watched Season 2 then don’t watch the trailer for this, there are spoilers. I only watched the first two episodes of this show, and I did like it, but it super incredibly brutal, so big content warning on that one. Although perhaps that’s unsurprising considering the franchise.
