How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from The Gaming Observer, for Wednesday August 21st, 2019. thegamingobserver.com for links and a transcript. I thought we were going to have a lot of Gamescom leftovers today, but we’ve actually got different news altogether. Let’s take a look.

Gamestop layoffs continue, also at Game Informer

The slow dismantling of Gamestop continues. They owned Game Informer, which was a magazine publication, and just today they underwent a round of layoffs. Game Informer was actually an insanely popular magazine, it had over 8 million paid subscribers, and was the fifth largest consumer publication in the US. There were quite a few editors laid off, so we’ll see how it survives moving forward. Gamestop itself also laid off 120 people, which is 14% of their staff across the board.

Starbreeze has stabilized for now, still looking for long-term investment
Gunfire Games releases

And speaking of declining companies, Starbreeze continues to give away many of its properties, as it recorded a 329% fall in profits year over year. They gave away the publishing rights to Psychonauts 2 and 10 Crowns, which gave them another $14 million to work with. And of course their main income came from Payday 2 with about one and a half million dollars coming in, but that game is declining as well. The acting CEO has said that the sales of their assets has secured the short-term future of the company, but of course they are still looking for something to come in and save them. Right now they have until September 3rd, which can potentially be extended.

Gunfire Games releases Remnant: From The Ashes

Gunfire Games, the peeps behind the Darksiders series, just released a game called Remnant: From The Ashes. I’ll talk more about it on Sunday, but what I will say is that I haven’t seen many people talking about this one. It’s got good reviews though. Interesingly the studio just got acquired by THQ, but this game is published by Perfect World. Of course that’s because of existing contracts but it might also establish a relationship there.

New Sims 4 game pack, “Realm Of Magic”

Hey to the person that wanted more Sims news check it out. They have a new game pack coming out called Realm of Magic. It was announced at E3 but we didn’t get much. You get to be a wizard, have spell duels, fly brooms etc. There’s also a unique world associated with the magic people as well. This makes them the fourth fantasy-based addition to the game, alongside mermaids, vampires, and aliens.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord releasing into early access March 2020

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is the newest game in the franchise, and they’ve just announced it will be releasing into Early Access in March 2020. It is a prequel, and will they’ve got a trailer out now. They wanted to go into Early Access this time around because they wanted to test the sandbox’s limits before they had an official release, so the feedback will be valuable to them. They say you will get the experience you expect from the first release, but that it will refine over time until the official one.

Packed full of news today, but I will be back tomorrow to hopefully go more indepth some of those things a little more in depth. I want to thank you very much for tuning in, and until tomorrow, Happy Gaming everyone!
