Daily Gaming Update

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here and welcome back to The Gaming Observer for Monday, July 6th. I hope you had a wonderful weekend, unfortunately there wasn’t a tremendous amount of news in video games, but we do have some stuff to talk about here, so let’s jump in.

The annual fighting game tournament Evo, which this year was converted to an online format, has been cancelled. The FGC, the fighting game community, has had a number of abuse allegations over the past few weeks, including the CEO of Evo itself. Because of that, a number of companies and notable players were dropping out of the tournament, including NetherRealm and Capcom. The CEO has now been replaced, attendees are getting refunds, and a donation has been made to the charity Project HOPE. I’ll finish the segment here with the statement made by Evo, “Progress doesn’t happen overnight, or without the bravery of those who speak up against misconduct and injustice. We are shocked and saddened by these events, but we are listening and committed to making every change that will be necessary in making Evo a better model for the stronger, safer culture we seek.”

World of Warcraft is going to be undergoing some changes, notably the fact that they are merging under-populated servers. Now a server with not a whole lot of people on it isn’t as bad as it used to be, but there are still things that are tied to the realm you are in. So they are going to take some time to study the realms, connect some of them together, and ideally not have any low-population server any longer. If you are a WoW player, they will give notices in advance of the connections, with a period of maintenance to get it done

As we know, Horizon: Zero Dawn is going to be heading to PC, and they have just announced that it will be happening on August 7th. This will be the complete edition of the game, so all of the pre-order bonuses and its DLC. They’ve also shown off that it is optimized for PC, with lots of technical goodies like unlocked frame rates, ultra-wide support, and controller mapping. If you don’t know this is a highly well regarded Playstation 4 exclusive, it’s all about the adventure of a hunter in a world where there are aggressive robotic animals, it’s also a really pretty game. Anyway, that’s Horizon Zero Dawn, August 7th.

Overcooked 2 is getting it’s next free DLC called Sun’s Out Buns Out. It is already available on PC, and on console it comes later this month. It’s got some new characters, new recipes and new levels. That’s pretty all there is to say, it’s more Overcooked which is always a great thing, I know lots of people love this game. If you haven’t played it and you like chaotic multiplayer games, this is the pinnacle of that genre.

If you are a fan of Dark Souls, or souls-like games, then you should probably have your eye on the game Mortal Shell. It has gotten pretty popular with its marketing over the past few months, and even the developers say that it’s a really difficult game targeted for soulslike fans. If this sounds like your cup of tea, they are in a public beta right now on the Epic Games Store, to be honest it kinda sounds more like a demo but I could be wrong.
