How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here and welcome back to The Gaming Observer daily updates. It is Thursday, March 26th, and you know it’s been a pretty slow week of news but I think we’ve got some interesting stuff here, so let’s take a look.

Doom Eternal doubles launch revenue of 2016 remake. Animal Crossing: New Horizons best Switch launch in Japan ever.

Alright so I’ve got some sales data here. First of all, DOOM Eternal have broken a franchise record for opening weekend sales, with double the revenue of the 2016 remake. It was also the best selling game on Steam for its release week, and hit over 100,000 concurrent players on that platform alone. It’s been really cool to see the success of this one, I know a lot of people love this resurgance of the series and they’re really carving out a niche right now. Some people in the TGO community have told me they were dissappointed with some aspects of Eternal, but I think overall the consensus has been that its a successful entry in the series. The other big sales story today is from Animal Crossing New Horizons, which is now the fastest selling Switch game in Japan. They sold 1.8 million copies in three days, with the previous 3-day record being Pokemon Sword and Shield combines at 1.3 million. Now this data is specifically referencing physical copies in Japan, which means that digital sales are probably way higher, so I think this game is actually going to be one of if not the most popular Switch games ever, which is really cool. The game has been dominating my Twitter feed, I know people are loving it. I didn’t end up buying it because I guess anybody who isn’t the first person to activate the game on a given Switch gets a limited experience, and I wanted to play it with my partner Shelby, so we’ll see if anything changes on that front.

Hi-Rez shares more about their newest game Rogue Company

Hi-Rez Studios has given us some more information about their newest game Rogue Company. If you don’t know, Hi-Rez is responsible for the games Smite, Paladins, and Realm Royale. And its interesting because all of those games have distinct genres, right? You’ve got the MOBA, the hero shooter, and the battle royale. But this new game they have here, Rogue Company, it kinda just looks like a regular third person shooter. Its graphics are this weird mix of realistic and cartoony, it seems like people have special abilities but not to the same degree as something like Overwatch. By all means it looks interesting, it’s just definitely a departure for that studio not to have a clear focus on its genre. You can sign up for its alpha right now if you’re interested, and it’ll be arriving on all consoles and the Epic Games Store with full crossplay and cross progression.

Child of Light free to keep on PC!

Child of Light is currently free to keep on the Ubisoft Store, so that’s PC only. This is a non-typical Ubisoft game. It’s a very stylish turn-based RPG. It’s got this watercolour aesthetic which makes for some really cool moments, and while I haven’t played it, I’ve heard the gameplay is good. And it’s funny, the only complaint I’ve ever seen about this game is actually pretty minor, which is the dialogue. They chose to have everything in the game rhyme, which apparently gets really old really fast. Doesn’t seem like it ruined the experience for anyone though. Go check that one out, free game never hurt anyone.

Alright, folks thanks so much for joining me. I will be back tomorrow with the news, as I am every Monday through Friday, and until then, Happy Gaming everyone.
