How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from The Gaming Observer and welcome back to your daily news update for Friday, May 29th. We are capping off our week here with lots of news to discuss, so let’s jump into it.

CD Projekt has reported on their Q1 financials, and they are seeing record revenues and profits. I’ve found myself saying that with a lot of companies these days, haven’t I? Anyway, revenue up 138%, profit up close to 350% year over year, so just insane numbers for them. Both of those being the best quarter 1’s they’ve ever had. They say that’s thanks to continued strong sales of The Witcher 3, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Not only that, but the entire Witcher franchise has now sold 50 million units, which means it sold about 10 million in the last year alone. At least six million of that belongs to the latest entry, likely with help from its release on the Nintendo Switch. I’m sure that will continue to go well as the franchise only increases in popularity, and of course the company is well positioned for the release of Cyberpunk 2077, releasing later this year.

Alright we’ve got a bunch of items here from the world of virtual reality, so let me tell you about them. First of all, a new headset has been unveiled by a company called XRSpace, which is led by one of the co-founders of HTC. The headset is called the Mova, and will cost $600 with mobile 5G and supposedly hand-tracking inputs. They’re also promoting their VR social platform Manova, which seems pretty engrained in their marketing. Not sure if this will be able to face its competition, but best of luck to them. We’ve also got the announcement of a new Star Wars VR experience, called Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge. Apparently this is an action-adventure game set between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker. This is made by the same studio who did previous Star Wars VR games like Vader Immortal, check it out. And finally, Half-Life: Alyx has received update 1.4. Nothing too crazy, its biggest thing being that they’ve added liquid inside of the various bottles you can pick up in the game. There’s also some UI tweaks and improvements for the workshop.

Darkest Dungeon has now received its latest free update called Butcher’s Circus. I talked about this when they announced it, but it takes quite a departure from the usual game and has implemented a player vs player mode. Very intriguing, I hope it works out for them, and I may even try it out myself and let you know what I think, as long as I can jump into it with a fresh game save. To celebrate, the devs has made the game free to play until June 1st, and it is 75% if you want to buy it. Definitely try out the free weekend if you haven’t played it before, its a super gritty and super hard game, but there’s lots to love about it, and honestly its probably a game worth trying before buying.

The rumours were true, and the Epic Games Store is giving away yet another AAA experience, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. This will bundle Borderlands 2, the Pre-Sequel, and all of their DLC into one tidy package. Now, as for crossplay between Epic and Steam, Borderlands 3 did have it, so I am going to assume that this will as well, but there’s no promises there. I mean the games are free, anyway, so just get your friends to pick it up on the new platform if you have to. Other than that, they’re also giving away an indie game called Sludge Life. It’s a brand new game, so I have no idea what the critical reception is, but its all about vandalism with these really weird creatures, it seems kinda psychadelic to be honest. Either way its free, no harm in picking it up.

Alright folks, that’s going to close out our week, thank you very much for joining me here today. I’m going to be back this weekend with some very special shows, back with the news on Monday, so until then…happy gaming everyone.
