Paradox Q3, Roundhouse Studios, Pokemon reviews, more

How’s it going everybody, Adrian Simple here from, for Thursday, November 14th. We’ve got lots to get into here today, let’s take a look.

Paradox Interactive Q3 financials

Alright so Paradox released their Q3 financials but for some reason none of the major news outlets covered it, so I’ll be analyzing this one solo. Revenues are up 26% year over year, profit up 36%. The success is attributed to the newly released Age of Wonders: Planetfall, expansion ports for Cities: Skylines and Stellaris, as well as Hearts of Iron IV and Surviving Mars. CEO Ebba Ljungerud seemed to make it pretty clear that Planetfall will be another game in their lineup which is supported for years to come, so if you’re a fan of the game you probably have lots to look forward to. Another interesting point is that Paradox sold an unannounced externally developed game that they were working on to another publisher for about $8.2 million, which was actually a net loss for them of 100 grand. In their powerpoint Ebba said that it’s a great game, but that they felt it didn’t fit within their portfolio, so they sold it off. No word yet on what that game is and who is involved, but I think it’s pretty cool that they have a clear vision of what they want their portfolio to look like. Overall a great quarter for them, with a very exciting quarter coming up.

Human Head reforms as Roundhouse, now owned by Bethesda

Human Head Studios, the developers of the critically panned The Quiet Man, and original developers of Prey, have shut down. However it is not all bad news, as the entire studio was immediately picked up by Bethesda and rennamed Rounhouse Studios. They have already begun working on some unannounced projects, and it sounds like no body lost their job, though I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that there’s at least a little restructuring that would have to happen. The CEO of the company said that they had to close down, and reached out to Bethesda before doing so, who decided to hire everyone into their company. An interesting note here is that Bethesda is the one with the IP rights to Prey, and published the Prey reboot, though that was developed by Arkane. A sequel for the original Prey was planned but cancelled, and reworked into the reboot. So anyway, it would not be surprising to see some involvement in that series from the newly named Roundhouse moving forward.

Pokemon Sword & Shield review embargo lifts

Pokemon Sword & Shield has had the review embargo lifted, leading up to its release tomorrow. And surprise surprise, despite internet outrage, it reviewed as you would expect. It’s another Pokemon game that does the things its good at, really good. They’ve expirimented with some new features that are polarizing, and there’s a lot missing from the game that reviewers really wanted. You’ve seen this before. There are some technical issues that people have run into that can be a bit jarring as well, like animations looking low quality. I’ll end it with this, from Alex Donaldson “After promising a Pokemon experience that’d satisfy the hardcore, this game is in fact much like Let’s Go – fine as a more chilled-out experience, but likely more disappointing the deeper a Pokefan you are.”

Stardew Valley update 1.4 details

Here’s some news about Stardew Valley. Version 1.4 has been given a release date of November 26th, with the console and mobile ports of that version to go up a few weeks after. The main goal of the update is to fix the remaining bugs of the game, and add some quality of life features. There’s also some new content that he didn’t want to reveal. The amount of free support that has been given to this game after being released for 3 years now is really cool, and of course if you haven’t played it I highly highly reccomend it. It’s a great game for all kinds of players.

Alright that’s all for today but a huge number of Amazon reviews just came through, so I want to give a big thank you to everyone, so Blake, Eisblume, Slayer, Danny, Phil, Jason, droid 2, and Rob. Thank you everyone you were all so kind in your messages. I will be back tomorrow, as I am every day, and until then…Happy Gaming everyone.
